Longan,also known as lamyai in northern Thailand, this fruit is succulent and delicious. Thailand is one of the important exporters of longan in the world and longan product is regarded to be more important for health conscious consumer. Main longan production area is Northern of Thailand. The harvesting season is between June to August every year. The fruit can be frozen, canned and dried. Dried longan flesh is also an ingredient in herbal medicine using for stomach ache, insomnia and as an antidote for poison.
Benefits From Dried Longan.
Longan fruit contains several vitamins and minerals, including iron, magnesium, phosphorus and potassium, and large amounts of vitamins A and C. The longan fruit also has phenolic compounds in the fruit, such as gallic acid, corilagin, and ellagic acid, indicating that the fruit may have antioxidant, chemo-preventive, and liver protective properties. The longan seed contains the highest levels of the three phenolics, and pulp contains the lowest.
